The carotid artery is one of the main arteries that supply blood to the brain. Narrowing of this artery can occur due to the accumulation of fat and cholesterol on its inner wall, leading to reduced blood flow to the brain and increased risk of stroke.

The stenting procedure is performed under local anesthesia, where a catheter is inserted through a small incision in the groin and guided to the affected carotid artery.

Before placing the stent, a special filter device is used to prevent any small clots from reaching the brain. The artery is then expanded using a small balloon, after which a metal stent is placed to expand the artery and maintain blood flow.
